Or what shipping service do you use instead of the carriers website?
Really depends on what you are shipping. What are you shipping?

Probably makes sense to use the big three for something small like a saw. Tracking and insurance are nice to have. I have no preference with them, they all do good, and bad. I like ups the best.

If you have a PayPal account you already have access to a great shipping tool. I have a pirate ship account too and the prices are identical.

If you have access to a printer there is no reason to pay retail shipping prices ever again.

I'd respectfully add a postage scale to your list and to a lesser extent a tape measure, which most everyone will already have.
Also, for USPS there's an extra charge for containers over two cubic feet in size, so it helps if the box is just under that so as not to get an extra four dollar fee.

Yup, kinda hard to do it without a scale. 🙂

I just went by the manufacturers weight for the saw and rounded up.

I was off by a half an ounce with USPS under weight and they charged me a surcharge of $1.38 after the package was picked up. I always over weight it by 3 oz now.

Also make sure you round up to the highest inch. So if it's 12 and a 1/4 don't just put in 12! USPS doesn't do decimals. They measure it as 13.

UPS doesn’t care what the weight is. That’s just USPS. As long as it’s under 70 lbs

Yeah, I like Pirate ship. Saved me money. Thanks for the info. I'll start shipping with it. Already got a scale. I used to ship with UPS and had an account. Got raped many times so wifey bought me a scale. The best thing to have for shipping.

I thought I would add a little tidbit of odd information regarding UPS and bars. I use UPS almost exclusively but when it comes to a bar you have to make sure the package is at least 2 inches thick. Now a properly packed bar will be close to that but just make sure it is. As dumb as it sounds if it is under 2 inches thick they will hammer you with a surcharge.
