I went into the Stihl dealer in Jamestown about a dozen years ago with a list of part numbers that I needed. I gave the fella that owns the place the list. He ask me where I got the part numbers. I said offa MediaCat. He said I wasn't supposed to have MediaCat. And....that he couldn't sell me the parts. I walked outta that store, and have never been back.

I had completely forgotten that 15 years later the same shop I was *b-wording about earlier told my son that I “ruined” his 660 by modding the muffler, getting him some quarts of Schaefers 7000, mixing it at 32:1 and tuning it for that mix

It is a milling saw

They told him if he didn’t put a factory muffler back on and run Ultra at 50:1 and let them tune it he would, and I quote, “burn up the saw”

How do you combat this ignorance on that scale?

It was a used saw, no warranty at stake, etc

And just like my earlier post they had him bring it in before they would sell him some milling chains

They felt obligated to piss on his saw

If they saw one of yours, there probably should be paramedics standing by for the stroke that ensued

My local stihl dealer doesn't make loops AND they don't sharpen chains. Asked why and they said too many asshats who never pickup sharpened chains and too much time wasted making up loops because customers want to wait on them. One of the counter people can't look at a bar and know what fits it. They look up the saw so if you have a different bar you will get the wrong chain. Thwy don't stock any carb kits and they don't work on carbs. They only replace them. Every order has a $20 fee. I can add mine to their order. They order every other week. So customers may wait 2 weeks for a part to be ordered. A guy brought me in a 362 mtronic saw that was running very bad. Told him i don't do m-tronic. Dealer had it a month to install a solenoid.

There are 3 main stihl shops around me . One used to be the McCulloch and Homelite shop ,a great place to do business , the other 2 are a split of 2 brothers ,1 is a saw fanatic and his wife helps with counter sales ,Super nice people and shop. The 3rd is a sh¡t show filed with disgruntled azzhats who are probably selling their customers vintage saws on EBay. At least the are on Craigslist locally, I dissuade people from doing business with them .
The Echo dealer follows you around the show room trying to sell you his special fuel mix , he's annoying but not terrible.

Thankfully we have 3 good places around us. One does stihl, husky, echo and also did jonsered. Great place, good prices, good help. They don't care what you wanna do for business, they just want it. Parts? Saws? Mowers? Service? Installs fisher plow setups too.

The other two deal strictly with stihl but also operate other ventures. One is a big John Deere dealer as well, the other is a large equipment sales and rental place. Both are painful to deal with when it comes to cost and customer service.

It is what it is.
