Simple mistake forgiveness granted!

Porcine matters can be serious in nature and cause hurted feelers on occasion so care should be taken when treading in these waters.

We have no local stihl dealer anymore. It was an older guy just outside of town, but he'a gone now. We had another about 10 minutes away, but he's gone too. The nearest is about 15-20 minutes away, a john deere dealer. They don't stock anything, and it's hit and miss on whether the service is good. There is another deere dealer about 35 minutes the other way and they don't stock anything either. Stihl has turned into a chit show, making new models in every flavor sp you can buy a new one when a $2 part needs replacing.

there is a husqvarna dealer about 40 monutes away, but the guys in there can be too big for their britches too.
Times have changed, and I don't like it. You used to be able to walk in and they knew exactly what was what. Now it's "we don't carry that, but we can sell you a new one".

I don't think they care anymore. I'm a handyman. I make and fix stuff, but it's getting harder and harder to just find parts, or even be able to fix what breaks because it's so damn cheap. You can't weld anything metal anymore because it's not real metal. Wood isn't even wood, and plastic is colored soy wax that seems to be a treat for squirrels.

the commercials on tv show a joe shmoe buying a fancy new powertool and magically becoming an expert. I don't get it.

So yeah, I have the local shop blues, especially after getting a price of almost $1000 just to get parts to fix a saw. Pure insanity.

I get the blues too. Especially when I don’t get the service across the counter that I used to provide when I was working on the other side of the counter years ago. I had managed a Stihl dealership for the owner, my boss, for 6 years and learned a lot back then. But most importantly how to treat everyone with respect and to keep parts on hand. We did that. We kept multiple parts on hand for a wide range of saws and other OPE. Especially the commercial and professional models. Those were the guys that needed it. Long story short, now that I’m self employed and logging, it’s frustrating going to a Stihl dealer that is too lazy to listen or look up the parts. Or that doesn’t have the part numbers memorized for the daily items like bar nuts, fuel caps, air filters, etc. Quite honestly it’s forced me to keep my own inventory on hand in my garage. And I look the part numbers up online and just bring in my list from time to time.. That’s unfortunately what it has become these days it seems.

I strongly empathize with all this, it really is insane times. On the positive side, these days for DIY handyman type information and knowledge is easier to access than ever, even videos, all that helped me immensely with not even needing the dealers anymore other than ordering parts, where I just go with part numbers and they don’t argue or question.
