Upgraded to the later style tall shoulder bar studs because the narrow ones fight you when mounting a bar/chain.

I did a little grinding on the piston and modified a 066 steel base gasket to work with this 064/066 hybrid. That got the squish to a respectable 0.031”.

Porting looks identical to how I normally do them, jug plating and machine work looked fine.

Same here. Anyone wrenching on older Stihls should buy that tool or fab one up. It almost looks like a small tapered air fitting and bushing could be made to work.

Finally piece is here. The spring was ok but the metal cup was broke. If you keep running them that way they wear through the starter pocket. It seems you can’t buy just the cup so I buy the spring and cup combo and drop it in.
New starter axle is a late model 660 style, they work fine but you’ll also need the larger inside diameter washer to go with it.
