Getting there! If I could weld or braze this would be done already!

Ok thanks to @rattler my head really hurts. However I have a better understanding of a degree wheel and port timing! Thanks Mike!

It will be easier next time, then you’ll be looking at CC specialties handpieces...lol!!

Are those numbers with or without base gasket?

If that were mine I’d take .020 off intake skirt, little timing advance, no base gasket and muffler mod. That would probably wake it up a bit. I did a similar thing to a 394 and responded nicely.

The 281 I recently acquired is missing the oil cap, is there a difference between the oil and fuel caps on these? I've screwed on my fuel cap onto the oil tank and it seems to fit nicely.

It should be able to use the newer style caps like on a 372. The newer ones have a much better o ring that doesn’t leak with age as easily. Oem cap is cheap enough I wouldn’t bother with a aftermarket one. A dealer near you should have them.

With no gasket it's much tighter than I expected. My with gasket measurement had to be off a little. No exhaust side measurement that piece jumped out of my hand never to be seen again!

You can even use the new style flippy caps on the 281/288.

Just picked up the muffler from the powder coat shop! Oh my does it look sweet! Best Husky muffler I have ever seen. How does a 31 year old Husky muffler not have any dents?
