Looks sheared too me. Probably happened when the screw was busting fins off.
Do you guys think this is a sheered key or timing advanced? I’m putting a new flywheel in do to a screw coming loose and knocking all the fins off. The piece that is sticking out isn’t loose even when I tried pulling it off with a pick. I always the the timing advanced keys were just filed down on the one side?

It’s the wrong direction to be timing advance, and it looks sheered too, plus it looks too wide to be a standard key filled down, they do make offset keys for atv an motorcycles but I haven’t seen one for a saw

NOS Eliminator cover, I think I will put it on my 281View attachment 189615
This 281 don't take any backseats to a View attachment 189619 288
I usually put the sealant on the cases and not the jug. Easier for me that way. Just a thin consistent layer is all you need, not a thick bead as that’s how you clog those impulse ports. I use either 3 bond 1184 or dirko (stihl oem sealant). Although there are other sealants out there that work good enough too. Gas/oil resistant preferably.View attachment 191361 I joined the 288 club.
My first base gasket delete. How do I make sure I don’t plug this hole with sealer? Sorry for the dumb question, I’m learning.
If you put sealant on both sides just give a little space for it to flow towards the hole. After the cylinder is tight I'll stick the Mityvac in the impulse hole and give it some posituve pressure to make sure the hole is clear.View attachment 191361 I joined the 288 club.

That top cover would look way better on my Rattler 288 Dustin. This 281 don't take any backseats to a View attachment 189619 288
Check real good inside the crankcase, I had one fly away and it ended up being in there. Glad I checked .Thanks guys. I’ll try a light sealant on the case. About as far as I’ll get today, lost ONE flippin circlip. HopingView attachment 191388 the dealer in town has a few.
High top? You? The apocalypse has arrived gentlemen...lmao!Got the filter adapter and filter from Nick Stoeckel for the Eliminator top cover, thanks man!
