You hear such bad things about filters on here, just wanted to give credit to the Jonsered guys l. This is a new to me 2165, that's how it showed up, I was worried when I first tookn the cover off. It will get a new filter regardless.
I few thing wrong with this post..

As long as we are giving Jonsered credit for using a good flock filter in the 2165
then let's slam them for using a bad mesh filter for the 2165/2171. Now, as well do Husqavna but the top cover on the 2165 is Sooo 80's as it has no additional carb/filter access like the 2171, 365, 372?

Now had it had a 21st century quick access cap? The filter likely would have not been neglected?
Also had it had one of their mesh filter in it then we certainly would not be praising either company.

Yes that flock filter in your OP is great in either the high top or low top. The filter you want to replace is brand new BTW. Look at the colour of the edges.
No reason to throw away dusty money friend. If you want to spend some money then pick yourself up a two piece top for it.
Bang it out regularly and
bath it in almost boiling hot water every now and then in laundry powder. Mine last the professional life of the saw.

Great little work horses.

So I’ve owned my 394 for about 5 years, 4 of them with this filter on it. Milled a metric chit ton and used it for firewood duty so it has some miles on it. I’ve used compressed air on it twice.
