Anyone tried the aftermarket cranks for a 385/390? Seems like these and the 460s have been going out like crazy lately for these local guys. Got 5 460s the other day and 2 had good cranks. The rest the big end is blown. 2 more 385s with blown big ends.

Last ones I bought 1 out of three were bad, but it was a spun crank in the main bearing. Dozerdan told me no no to am cranks when I got in to saws. Never tried one.

There's a guy on chainsaw repair from over in Asia using the 372 cranks and pulling the rod and bearing off and putting it on a 461 crank. They were having a lot of failures on them over there. Said the Chinese bearing was holding up better.

Hmm. I've thought about rebuilding some cranks but never needed them. I've done a couple bike cranks, but not being able to get rod kits for saws made it a game of used parts.

He was pulling new chinese cranks apart and using them. I think he found a seller to get just the bearings and rods from and did around 25.

What causes the big end to go out. Lack of oil/ heat. I bought a bunch of saws of a logger and almost all of them had bad big ends. One was a almost mint husky 257.

I tried an aftermarket on my 385. One didn't fit right, and the other wasn't straight. Flywheel had noticeable runout, so I stopped and went with new oe.....

Ok. I guess that seals it.

Mike OEM cranks are outrageous, I put one in a 372, was almost $300.00 The only way they will sell it is as a kit with new bearings, gaskets, and a clutch.

We had some problems with some a few years ago that came out of Turkey (not sure where they were actually made). We stopped buying those.
I can't remember exactly what the problem was. I think the connecting rod was not lining up.

The last oem 372 kits I bought were $220. Dang if $300 now. I was only selling the saws for $400.

Was using one of them the other day ripping with 24" in ash, I had sold to a friend. Dang she ran gooooooood. :(
