I'd like to add a purge barb to a Chinese knockoff of a WT657 to allow the use of the purge bulb on my muffler moded Craftsman 358.351181 saw. The carb has a spot where such a barb would go, shouldn't be that difficult if the metering side has the provision for the intersecting hole. Haven't opened the carb to check for possible drilling, just wondering if someone has done this already. Don't like pulling the thing forever to prime the carb, know this is totally unnecessary but it's a challenge I want to take. Thank you

If you do end up going this route, take pictures and share, I am sure there are many here who would like to see the process and possibly attempt it themselves too!

You’ll have to see if the idle circuit if the carburetor has a check valve. If it does, then you’re good to go. If it doesn’t, the purge bulb will suck air through the idle passages. You may be able to retrofit another WT carb from a saw with a purge bulb; some old poulans had them, and the Echo 370/400s as well.

I wonder if this is also possible for the c3 el42 for a 346Ne swap? Has anyone done this?

Installed a fuel return barb on my knockoff WT657 this morning. Using a drill press and a drill vice to hold the body, dilled a .120"(#31 drill) hole for the barb (carb had a dimple where tube would go), intersecting hole in metering side at .060", Ace Hardware brass tube .125" OD, .093" ID. Cut tube to .700", chucked it in my drill used emery cloth to taper ends slightly. Once tube was tapered enough to start in the drilled hole à little red Loctite in the hole I used the drill to spin the tube into the hole checking not to block the intersecting hole. I was satisfied with the operation BUT will it work as I want--testing will tell.

Installed knockoff WT657 carb, connected lines from OE WT391. Purge bulb worked and no leaks started without the ripping my arm out of the socket. Late so put it up til tomorrow, shows promis. Best thing is original choke lever is the same PN as used on Poulàn 295 which came with the 657.
