I found one on Craigslist for $150. He said it needs a top end. Is there anything I need to know or I should look at before buying it?

Check the crank good if the top end is off.

He said it turns over easily. He hasn't taken it apart, he just took the muffler off. No bar or chain but otherwise complete.

Seem to be good saws, very smooth ativibes, case has stuffers, and very little aftermarket parts available. Piston and cylinder kit runs around $200+ OEM. Available in autotune and and non auto tune. Good luck

How does it compare to the ms460?

Smooth running saws... more so than a 460 IMO.

Like a 441 though they are heavy for their displacement.

Would not stop me from owning one though.

Sent from my non internal combustion device.

As mentioned, not much aftermarket. Last time I had to find a piston it was an off-brand from Europe. Not the easiest saw to work on with the boot and carb design, but they seem to run well.

I have had two here.. liked them both but others liked them more than me. I like them and the new owners do too.

They're really good saws. They balance very well with a 28" set up. They feel too heavy until the bar is the right length.
Great power range and will out cut the ms460.
The thing you gotta watch for is what roasted it. You want to change the seals when replacing a roasted top end because the heat that killed the piston also cooks the inner side of the seals. The pto side seal is part of the bearing and the case needs split to change it.

I thought you could pick the seal out of the PTO bearing w/o splitting the case, similar to a 353/346xp, but it's been awhile.

That's the kind of information I'm looking for. I don't need the saw at all, just looking for a winter project that I don't have to put a ton of money into.

About $60-70 like most of the bigger husky with the weird integral seal on the clutch side.
