The recoil spring that controls the motor and grinding wheel on my Oregon 511a once again snapped: part G042. I ordered a replacement. This spring pivots on an axle as shown here *sorry for the 90 degree Pic rotation":

What I cannot remember is a safe way to remove the axle, which I think is a simple press fit that I can hammer out, Is that correct? I really do not want to damage this assembly. I successfully replaced this one about 12 years ago and cannot remember exactly how I did it. This spring lasted about another 12 years until if snapped today. I have a new one on order.

Meanwhile I have installed my temporary shop-made gravity assembly that works fine: A 5-lb wedge works beautifully:

I could probably use this setup forever, but if you can tell me the best way to install the new spring, I would really appreciate it. TIA.

I've replaced that spring on one of my Oregon grinders. I just hit the pin out with a hammer and punch.

I got the spring replaced. Not exactly easy because it would only go all the way out in one direction. Naturally, I selected the wrong way on my first attempt. It came all the way out when I switched over. Not sure why that was the case. Anyway, now it's in place and as good as new.

BTW, the gravity assembly I made and shown above worked fine. Glad I saved it. The 6-lb counterweight is ideal.
