Well to say I like my 421/4300 would be an understatement! This is a really fun saw. I helped a friend out earlier in the week out of a bucket and this was fun for that too. Anywho this saw has had the cat removed and a muff mod since day 1, I was thinking the other day about timing advance I know @Miller Mod Saws advances the timing on ported ones but had anyone ever tried it on a stock one? Results? I know my 034s and other models really like it.

I have no clue how the ignition works on that but I'd try a timing bump. It's not hard to go back if things dot work out for the better.

That's what I was thinking just wanted to see if anyone has tried it. I may give it a whirl and see what happens

Yeah buddy. Think it will only help it out. A small light strong saw is a safe safe

There a cracker for sure. There are a few threads on OPE about modding the 421/4300 .. one that Miller Mod did . Might be worth a look before you think about changing anything further. :)

IMO. The 421/4300 is the best bang for your buck for a small saw. They run very well stock. And are little freaks ported. I can't remember if I bumped the timing before i ported it. But probably not. I don't sell to many lightly modded saws so to speak. Guys seem to either want it stock or ported. No in between. Lol.

I'll have to check it out! Maybe it could be a wife/ sons saw that's why I bought this 421/4300 but I really enjoy using it. I'm gonna take .020 off the key and see what happens and I'll report back. It won't happen today my wife is working and I have the boys plus it's hot and humid!

Mine just has a muff mod. And I really enjoy it. I am sure a Miller MOD special would be awesome to have especially when helping buddies get some fire wood. Lol but mine will put tons of wood on the ground and produces more wood then I like to carry lol

Carl's 421's are one of the most impressive saws I've ran

Well I popped the flywheel off and it's a cast key and I don't have a small enough file to get in there so back together it went. I'm happy how it runs with just a muffler mod anyway! For sub 16 inch wood I bet most firewood hacks could get but with just this saw!

Take the time and advance the timing and remove the base gasket. Get a little harbor freight dremel when you lower the jug you'll have to adjust the coil and takes some time but worth it. Well worth the time...

I was under the impression you couldn't do a base delete on these because squish was in the low 20's stock. Am I wrong?
