I have a 400C and its not a PITA to work on. I see the 400.1 one as basicly the same in that regregard
Look at my photo again and imagine how you would cut the base on a lathe. Than add asimetric chamber design and imagine cutting squish by hand like I do. It has nothing in common with old 400 believe me

Transfer entrance is way down in the case. Cilinder entrance is just part of a tunnel. That extension on cylinder has to stay there imo

Would like to see some of the rest of the "picture" so to speak, like the timing numbers and squish as it comes from the factory, along with the gasket thickness and extension gap to case measurement before trying to develop a plan of attack with the cylinder extension of this saw.
Some possible machining ideas come to mind but are hardly worth mentioning without the benefit of having an example in hand to ascertain just what can be done successfully and to the betterment of the machine.

So ladies here are to vids from the saw.
First stock with cold start.
Second with muff mod, carb shafts thinned and oiled foam filter.
But I didn’t gain any cut time. May be the lock is to small.
After the mods I ran the saw for 10 min in different size of wood.
20“ 404 rs 8 pin
I use this setup to load the saw as much as possible without any pushing the saw. To get 4 similar cuts.
