Anyone have any idea where I can get one of these o rings or the spec for finding a suitable replacement? This 372 I have has a split o ring. Sometimes it works sometimes it is slow to idle blah blah blah. I mean the o ring that sits behind the oiler worm and not the actual crank seals...

Hey Adam,

I use these people:

https://www.lsengineers.co.uk/

you can phone them mon-sat or create an account if you know the Part number. They are brummies so they are usually really happy to help. Their time-to-my-door service (bear in mind I only repair stihls) is excellent, and can't really fault them. Give them a try?

What I don't get is that after tearing it down it looks like all that will happen is that the collar when on and the clutch tightened down on it will crush the o ring to pieces... have I got the assembly sequence right? Crank seals, collar, o ring, clutch?

Or is it crank seal, o ring, collar, clutch?

I mean seriously, how stupid is it that the 372 flywheel side seal has no flat surface to set the seal flush with.. It is a damn conical shape..

I look for 2 things, one, the end of the cone, and 2, the rubber part of the seal riding on the NON TAPERED part of the crank. if the seal is on the tapered part of the crank, it isn't right.

Yep I guessed the same. I am looking at it thinking it is fine. Plenty of experience fitting differential seals and crank seals on trucks and tractors..

Yeah....such a thing does exist....I haven't made one yet. Walt has.....and it works pretty good.
That whole seating depth thing is weird on some huskies. I keep trying the flywheel. Once it goes on tight I take the seal another .020 or .030" for good measure. I'm sure there's a spec for it somewhere
