Okay, way to make me feel bad now!

But yes, I'm well aware haha. I couldn't find any, so if anyone knows where some really really nice ones are, or NOS, feel free to let me know.

To be honest tho, this saw was very low hour, and was a pretty late model one. It had the gray clips, which to the best of my knowledge were original. I do like the orange clips a lot better, but some 371's could've slipped through with grays. This saw was 1 of 3 bought by family members from the same dealership within the same month in a small town in NH. We have 2 as if now, and the third is owned by my uncle. It'd be sweet to get all three back together. They could potientially have very close serial numbers as well.

There's also one more thing that isn't "correct" here. If anyone picks it out I'd be impressed.
Starter cover has bridge dividing the fins. Newer than original. Like the starter on my 372.

Never noticed that; but you're damn close so I'll give it to ya.

The "felling marks" on the starter assembly go into the decal area on the 372's whereas the 371's didn't. So I had to cut carefully into the decal to accommodate. I thought of grinding the plastics flush, and I still may, but it's pretty insignificant even to me. I'll leave it alone for now.

Good eye as well!

My 262 has a Sugar Creek decal on the starter cover. Very happy with it. It is the 262xp professional one which earlier 262s had a lot of times the KS 87 variety.

I'll nit-pick yours now, get a new fuel cap!
Otherwise, good looking saw! Never run a 262xp but they sure have a following.
He makes a nice decal for sure

I have the original cap and replica replacement but both leak bad. The newer cap seals. Tank has a crack so I plan to replace it. Hopefully then I can go back to the original cap :)

So do mine; just the gas one. The oil ones never seem to leak. I wonder if the oring from a new one will work? Can't see why not.

Thanks Wolverine.

And I just grabbed a new style gas cap. Next time I need o-rings for another project, I'll see if I can find a match for the older style caps.
Thanks for that part number as well cable guy, Appreciate it

I've wondered if the change to gray happened during the end of the 371 run, but so far, all the 371's I've encountered have had the orange cover clips...Oh yeah, mine had a new style fuel cap in the pic I posted, it came that way when I bought it, but I've since changed it back to the original style cap.

Your saw turned out great. Many 371's came with 2 ring pistons, only difference I can find between a 372 and 371 is clutch side case was updated with two gussets to strengthen case. That being said 1 ring piston 1.5mm ring vs 2 1.2mm rings, run as good or better. No matter, Nice saw!!

I think it did happen towards the end of production, just like a lot of other things when they near the end of a production run.

Thanks for the compliments guys. After I finished painting, I realized that I didn't cover the areas that aren't supposed to have paint, like under the bar plate and bad studs, so I just went back and sanded them so they're fine now. Just thought I'd let you all know.

And thanks for all the compliments guys. I'll do a thread in the near future on a Partner R17 that I'm finishing up right now. Parts availability kills progress.

The 371 on my bench is painted under the bar plate.

Every Husky I own has bare metal right there. Maybe someone painted yours? Or it's AM?Plus, the oil tank breather is there if I'm not mistaken. Don't want that clogged with paint.

Based off my experience, any place where metal is machined and meant to touch other metal, it's best to leave it bare. You'll loose precision with the paint. It's not such a big deal in this instance but a good example in between the case halfs.

Is that Sugar Creek fella offering the 371 decal kits now?
I believe so. He sent mine about a week ago and I told him about the felling marks on the replacement starter covers. So he said he'd make a starter cover decal with the cut outs, and without the cut outs, for the original housings. The top cover decals are perfect, as is the clutch cover one.

Since most of his stuff isn't listed on sites, I'd shoot him an email about it.
