Got my pop in laws 359 on the bench for hard hot start issues today. Hope it's something simple but I'll post up what I find as I find it.

First impression while running is fuel line. Pulled the muffler to make sure it's not scoring and it looks great. Lots of oil and no scoring whatsoever. Passes pressure check also, just trying to be thorough for me pop.

Well, I think I ironed it out. Even simpler than fuel lines and such. Lean tune + dull chain = hot saw that don't wanna start. After checking over everything I sharpened the chain, which was in very bad shape and dialed in the tune. It was definitely lean. So off to the wood pile I go and commence to milling and noodling about 25 blocks to get it good and hot. Hot started perfect. So then I cut some more while really beating on it, prying on the dogs HARD and it hot started fine. Keep it simple stupid, but in all reality the saw needed a good once over inspection as my pop in law doesn't know much about a saw except how to use it. Gonna give him some chain sharpeneing and tuning pointers again so he hopefully doesn't have this problem again. So much for a project, wasn't worth starting a thread. Lol! But at least I can go get my 357XP back from his place.

It did revive my want for a 359 though, nice running saw.

Incorrect carb settings /Lean tune can point you to all the "Wrong" places ! ..a good reason for starting the thread...basic diagnostics ...best not to overlook um :)

Yes sir! Basics are important and like you said I think that's the little bit of value this thread has for others. The other lesson is he stopped using it when it acted up, that's the right move.
