Does anyone know the cut off serial number when they changed pistons? That's a serious concern when these things come up for sale quit often. I wouldn't buy the early one.
I'll have to do some digging Jim.
I know on one of the IPL'S it had a S/N cut off.

Now that I've seen (heard) these videos Joe I don't think my changes made much of a difference...as I thought might be the case. Frigin log rolling didn't help either saw. Back to the drawing board....

I don't remember, did you widen the exhaust???

Also, I'm thinking about 3 deg higher ex and trans might wake er' up good... But I could be wrong, I'm no expert...

Yes I widened the exhaust a little. Also advanced the timing. Son of a gun certainly revs quicker now. And the tach did show my saw holding 1k higher in the cut than yours. But again, your chain was biting a little harder which is most likely the cause of the lower rpm in the cut.

Just went back to post #1 and looked at your numbers... If it were me, I might just raise the ex to 103, widen it to 65% of bore and leave transfer alone for now. I don't think widening the ex to 65% will hurt, I took my 372 to just about 70% and that saw rips.. Granted, two different engines but I think the idea still applies....I think the lower ex might be what's holding you back from spinning over 14K safely.

And yes, it does certainly rev quicker..at least to my ear.

Sounds like a good plan. I will leave the transfers alone as I think it could benefit from a little more blow down. I'll probably put the exhaust at 104° just to keep my slow and steady learning curve going
