353 Tank vent valve and filter plug

Hi

My 353 project needs among other things a tank vent set-up.

IPL numbers are 501629801 and 501629801.

Are these the best way to go or is there an AM option? Two white discs are $26NZD is all.

How do those install Beag? Pull the hose off and push the nipple in where the original small puck was?

Depends on the saw on an old Jonsereds 670 I drilled the existing vent tube and tucked the vent between the tank and crankcase with a short piece of hose attached. 346/357 you can run the line from inside the air box to the tank. I can't remember if I drilled those or not, it's been awhile. Once installed the echo style vents don't leak like a lot of others.

Depends on the era. I think the later ones have the white fitting with the disks in it. It’s redundant, but they have the barb on the outside to run a hose up to an Echo style vent. The older ones have just a brass sintered screen pushed into the hole. On a budget build, I’ve used the Echo style vent with only a half inch piece of hose and press fit it into the vent opening with some Motoseal on it. The next day it didn’t want to come out, but no idea on longevity

If the existing vent is not in a handy place to run a hose out of, it can be abandoned and a proper size hole drilled in the tank for the line to the Echo style in a better place to run it up into the carburetor box out of the way.
