I have a very pretty, lightly used 5105 for sale. It is a 2014 model with the easy start, and I swapped a non-cat muffler onto it. I also added double dogs to it. Limiter caps have also been pulled from the carb, so it needs a special screwdriver to adjust, but it is fully adjustable. I also modded the tank vent valve to prevent flooding through the carb, as these are prone to do.

Sorry about the dust on it in the pic. Buyer will receive it in fully cleaned condition.

I need to thin down the collection, and since I have a ported 026, I think I'll let this one go. It should be a good candidate for porting, with it being as clean as it is. I should also add that the piston is very nice, with machine marks all present, and the compression is around 180, IIRC.

Asking $400 plus shipping, and I can throw in the bar, chain, screwdriver, and factory bar cover if you pay shipping.

Please enlighten me on the tank vent valve mod.
I believe you remove the vent, it looks like a duckbill and snip a corner from it with a scissors to improve the situation described above. I understand this was a manufacturer recommended modification to their dealer network. I know there was discussion on this years past and an illustration of the vent itself and location should be in the makita IPL’s in the Manuals forum here.

Good explanation. This modification removes the tendency to flood immediately. I’ve done several.

Yep , same pics I saw ,I did it to my saw this evening. I might have snipped just slightly more but not much. Some pressure behind the plug gas squirted out. I'm not sure how this will help? I'll find out tomorrow when I try to start it. Thanks for the info and pics.

It helps by allowing the tank to vent out. As fuel is used the design of the vent easily allows outside air in but the design didn’t allow inside pressure out. If there is too much pressure inside the tank it could push fuel through the carb and flood the saw. Mine definitely had the flood issue before the modification.

Mine would definitely flood easily. The dealer is bought it from warned me about it flooding easily. There was definitely pressure in the tank ,gas squirted out when I pulled the red plug. Am I gonna need to returned after this mod?
