Thing is way I understand it all chains Stihl makes start out at .063 for drivers then they are cut to .058 or 050
I have 33, 35 and 36RM chain and the only difference between them is the thickness of the drive link below the tie straps. You can see a line where they have thinned the link down level with the bottom of the straps.

I can confirm this for my small stash of Stihl chains in .050" & .058".

This is not the best example but 35RS and 36RS. The poorly drawn arrow shows where the drive link is thinned. It's much more obvious on 33RS. Same applies for 325 excluding 23RS pro.

I'll get some pictures of my .050" Stihl loop tomorrow.
The thinning is very pronounced.

Stihl RM, 3/8" .050"

.050" in the bottom and .063" at the tie straps

Definitely can see they were thinned down below the tie straps. Guess my buddy at Stihl wasn’t blowing smoke. He said it was to keep a uniform kerf and strength in the chassis along with allowing the same straps and rivets to work on all chains of that size well.

Oregon does it a little bit different. 050 and 058 use the same drive link, thinned for the 050. Their 063 uses a different drive link and is .005 wider at the tie straps

Sounds like some are partial to the RSK. Is it the factory grind that you like, or something about the cutter that clears chips? If you put your own grind on an RS and RSK, would you expect a difference in performance?

I hand file it. It changes the cutting edge slightly. I prefer RSK because of the cutter geometry, and steel hardness, as compared to other chains.

I like the straight raker, which makes it easier to file to set raker depth and bore cuts smoother.

That’s the biggest difference I can tell. After a sharpening or two the tooth is going to be how I sharpen the chain anyway, so it’ll cut the way I want it to straight cutting.
