Some chains do have dual depth gauges ('rakers'). This happens to be the dressing link from a PowerSharp chain, along with a low kickback bumper - just a clear photo that illustrates it well. But I have some old Sabre (?) chain with conventional cutters and dual depth gauges. Some fire rescue chains also use them.

I thought the Rescue guys used the Carbide chains?

The PowerSharp dressing link is impregnated with diamond dust to dress the sharpening stone with each pass.

The fire rescue chain shown has carbide tips brazed on between the dual sided cutters. There are several different types of carbide chains, and rescue chains:

But again, some 'normal' cutters have the dual depth gauges too!

Getting Deep in to some larger Ash, B&C holding up well and the 340 screaming along. Oils well enough too.
So far happy with the X-B&C combo.

That's a nice photo!

It's not NK, but I've been extremely happy with .325 LPX with the Versa Cut bar on my 552XP. This photo taken during break-in..

I'm getting in to a few big things next week and bucking with the 340.
I think so far the strongest impression of the X stuff is how "Smooth" it is, most likely because of the NK.
It just goes thru stuff at a nice steady pace with little need to lean on the saw, which is as it should be.
No need to sharpen yet after about 2 tanks worth of North Eastern Ash (PA).

How do you like the 550mkII so far?

I've had the saw about a month. About two gallons of fuel through it. Every time I pick the saw up, I'm impressed by it. Awesome power for 50 cc's, lightning acceleration, lightweight, particularly with the Versa Cut bar. I don't see the other saws getting much use anymore, except to start and run for old time's sake. Maybe the 576 for something big, but this can easily handle most anything I need it for now.

Very impressive saw!

I will need to purchase new bars next season, are you guys happy with the new Versa Cut bars. Have they been holding up in the wear department? Are they an all around better design for sprocket oiling and such?

Is there any more need on the new Stihl .325 chain?

Already jumping at the bit to get my new 550xpg MK2, guessing it will have the xcut on it. I saw HL Supply had the 3/8" xcut on sale yesterday so ordered a reel to try out against my Woodland Pro. Anyone use the 3/8" version yet?

3/8 has been out for a long time.
It cuts very good. I haven't tried to sharpen it yet.

I see you're waiting on the heated-handle G model...I'm sure it'll work well as cold as it gets in NE.
