Never had that problem with a rubber av system. I do bet your cylinder cover screws are wollered out and have time certs installed though i bet youve had torn intake boots and them stupid intake boot clamps that are plastic break though.

1mm is a tad shy of 0.040"

Idk what to do with the extra stroke.

The idea was to take a 395 crank and turn the clutch side on the lathe to resemble a 385 pto end.
Ok, I know some models run some pretty generous squish clearance...thinking of a stock 394, squish is usually right around .050. so, if the 385 is in that same ballpark, then about .010 popup should land you right in there at .020 give or take. What about pin diameter?? And most of all, juice worth the squeeze???

Interesting to think about..

So has the OP made a decision on a build saw? If it was me I would go with what has the best price and most parts available.
Honestly Dub, I'm really thinking I'd like to do a 385 next. Only decision that remains is whether or not to put the 359 on the chopping block to get a builder or be patient and just buy one....

And just because I've about made my mind up, doesn't mean the discussion needs to end. I love this stuff...even the ribbing back and forth between brand loyalties :D

So, remembering Onan-Joe's statement about the 385 port shapes being better, does anyone have stock timing numbers handy for the 385 and 390 to compare?
Usually a 385 is 98-100 on exhaust and 390 is 96-97. Me and another guy cut apart 390 and 395 cranks. 1mm of stroke is easily covered with a gasket and a popup or cleaning up the squish band.
