288 would be my first choice always because they have a stronger crank and bearing set up, a good foundation is key to any saw to me, around here a 390 only lasts a year or 2 at most before the bearing fails, 385 have lasted much longer, sounds strange but the larger piston in the 390 puts more strain on the bottom end. Just my experiences, Hope this helps.

Somebody needs you on retainer advisement for next year. Now, what crank needs to be used in what case with which clutch in your humble mechanical opinion? Fire away Joe. How would your cross-breed come out? This just got real interesting.

Like Dustin said, 288 crank FTW!

From what ive heard guys say the 385 has better numbers is why they like em. Im not a husky guy but thats what ive heard.
I don't think the initial numbers is where he's going with this. He is gonna dig in here the things going on a diet.

Eh-hem...me me me me me meeeeeeee...Doe Ray Me Fa So La Tee Doooooeeeeeeee......HOORAY 288!

I stand by my unfaultering recommendation that you’ve broken the 2-series ice with a great Saw in your 242, and now you need THE legend. 288 FTW!!!!!

I have a 288, (2) 385's and a 395...
there is a reason why I have (2) 385's.....they are easier to run then the 288 and 395.
when I feel the need to run a big saw I pull out the 385. I really got to be in NEED of the 395 to grab that honking monster off the rack... 288 runs when I'm feeling nostalgic and need a little 2stroke music magic...

plus outboard/inboard blah....
basically the 395 oils like the exxon valdez so unless you need to dump oil like its on sale....the 385 gets the nod

Well yeah, but wouldn't it be fun to run them side x side???

Ok so being serious. I have no doubt the 385 will be quicker in the cut, but this choice isn’t about the fastest saw, I get it. I get the sense you not only want to do something different than I did, but I really don’t think my 288 made you giggle when you’ve run it. You know, in the rugged manly way that it makes me giggle. I think you’ll end up with a 385 and I’d be excited to run them side x side.

Oh make no mistake, I'm genuinely impressed with the 288 and not saying I won't build one at some point. Just trying to decide if a 288 will be next or a 385. The part of me that wants to try something neither of us has yet wants to do the 385 and to be honest, what's been said about the 385 is making me lean that way pretty hard at this point. Just looked on Ebay and there is a mostly complete blown 385 on there at $61 bid with two days to go...

Thanks Dustin. Think anyone would want to trade for a good running 359?? Still haven't made that decision final yet, but rather sticking my toe in the water....
What will you trade that 359 for besides a big Husqy?
Is it oem or ported due tell...
