288 would be my first choice always because they have a stronger crank and bearing set up, a good foundation is key to any saw to me, around here a 390 only lasts a year or 2 at most before the bearing fails, 385 have lasted much longer, sounds strange but the larger piston in the 390 puts more strain on the bottom end. Just my experiences, Hope this helps.
