Yes, that is incorrect. 288, 394 and 395 have 1mm more stroke. Seems like early 288 cranks were different, but later 288 and 394 cranks are drop in interchangeable if I recall correctly. If I am wrong on that, someone correct me and I will edit this post so as not to cause confusion.

Correct and the early 181 crank was a different animal entirely. If a guy could convert the 395 crank to inboard clutch and then drop it into a 385/390, then you'd have something.

Why not build a stroked 385? Have you or anyone thought of that?

Edit: jusding by the post above mine it's because clutch differences. Never mind...

Unless you feel like press g a crank apart. :D:D

And I don't think pressing the crank apart is the trickiest part, it's getting it back together properly trued that is the real trick. Not that getting one apart without damaging it wouldn't be tricky enough

Alright, so other than Awol's evidence of a very strong 2188/390, I'm kinda leaning toward doing a 385, but by all means the more input and conversation the merrier. This subject is not remotely closed as of yet.

Honestly, this is something that probably won't get the full treatment right out of the gate. I'll likely just overhaul it and get it back going in stock or near stock config leaving heavier mods for a bit down the road. Kind of want to get a feel of it in stock config so gains from heavier mods can really be realized and appreciated.

So......385 vs 288???

Let the Hooray 288 posts commence! LOL! :D

Actually, I'm kind of shocked we are two pages in and not one "Hooray 288" comment yet!

Maybe the thread title is keeping it incognito to the 288 aficionados. :eyepop:

Somebody needs you on retainer advisement for next year. Now, what crank needs to be used in what case with which clutch in your humble mechanical opinion? Fire away Joe. How would your cross-breed come out? This just got real interesting.
