Thanks for the info. I only replaced the hard rubber front buffer near the oil cap. I'm just gonna get new av springs to be safe. But it's gonna cause the saw to be sidelined for a little longer. I gotta wait to buy more parts

That's one part of the 262 I just don't care for, the AV setup.

That lower front rubber one that mates to the spring breaks frequently. The worst part is that it will allow the tank to flex on the case and apply pressure to the carb linkage causing the Saw to rev. Kinda dangerous setup.

My 181 does that too. I'm guessing that's why they got away from the intake block setup?

Not sure the av sprints wear out easily . ..I wouldn't replace those unless they r broke or bent. rubber does go bad though . ..

Agreed. I doubt it's the springs.

I believe it was @bplust that helped me with mine. There was one off another model that fit with a bit of modification and is supposed to be tougher. It's on @rjames saw. I can't remember what it was.

154/254/257 rubbers will fit, as long as you trim them to size. It's too bad that the single rubber on those saws is right below the oil cap, as rubber does love oil...

A long overdue update... Bought a house last April and have been dealing with that and getting my truck on the road. Plus instead of getting a new lawnmower i decided a 1973 cub cadet would be better, which like everyting I have, is a work in progress lol.

had to replace the clutch as the shoes were just too worn and it would enage at too low an rpm. Put a used 2 shoe set up that the dealer had. No issue there anymore.

Replaced the tank vent and little "stone" things because it was leaking when the tank was full and/or built up pressure. Found this out the first time I brought it somewhere to help clean up some thorn trees lol.

Ended up replacing the upper av springs with hard rubber buffers. What a difference! Like a whole new saw now. The dealers parts book showed rubber on the early 262 and springs later, 261, 257 etc.

Yeah, as long as you trim them. Had a 262 that I took apart had the 257 rubber in the handle. Spent about 2 hours trying to get that sucker in. How the guy got it in before was a mystery to me. Realized it was the wrong rubber and replaced it. Kept the 257 rubber though, will try it if it fails.

It's the 288 rubber mounts that you want to be using for the rear mounts not those from the 257/254. Part number is 501 814 701, and they need no trimming. Like the spring mounts, those rubber mounts screw into the tank. 254/257 mounts are made to slide into the tank the same as the 51/55 mounts as they use the SAME tank.

Later 281/288 IPL's show both the rubber and spring mounts as options. I put the 288 rubber mounts in a 262 of mine. Little more vibration, but the saw has a much more solid feel. Rear spring mounts can often make a 262 feel like something is loose and needs to be tightened. If 262's had the top spring mount between the cylinder and handle like most saws that came later, they would have felt a lot better.
