Always bugged me to but just the way they are. They used the same set of spikes on the 55 ranchers and they are the same way. Just the way the made them. If it bugged you bad enough you could always slot the holes on the outer one but i think you would need to trim the back of it to so it would still fit the side cover.

Thanks, it's not a big deal at this point. I'll wait until I actually use the saw to decide what to do with the spikes. I'm hoping to get the clutch put back together with new spring and replace the bar tip today so I can tune it properly

Well it pissed all the bar oil out where the tank connects to the oil pump. I checked everything and can't see anything out of sorts. The rubber oil hose looks to be fine. Took everything out,.cleaned and reassembled.

Also, I replaced the clutch spring. I was able to put it together by hand. Should it be that easy?

The rivets on the bar tip are stubborn but I'm gonna just use a bigger hammer...

Did you check that you installed the little rubber ring (# 501 62 43 01) on your oil pump?

no, I have to use tools when I mount the clutch spring, if I remember correct...

Yes I do have that little rubber piece. The clutch is baffling me. It appears everything is all there amd fits in the drum fine too. But it just went together too easy. There's the 3 shoes, spring and retainer piece correct? I'll take some pics when I get home

some I can put together piece by piece, can't remember if that was for 242 and 262 clutches.
If you can take the spring on and off with your fingers after the 3 shoes are mounted you have defently wrong spring.
Shoot some pictures and post them when you are home.

Is there a Crack in the oil pump?

If it isnt the pump....it's got to be the rubber bits.

that's what I'm thinking about also.
I've seen some of my old 2xx has a malfunction rubber

Now I'm on the look for the winter cover! Just when I thought I had everything for a 262.
my JRed 2253WH came with winter kit.
I also want winterkit for my 2xx XPG's now lol

It appeared the oil was leaking where the pump meets the rubber hose going into the tank. That's the only spot that dripped oil besides outlet at the bar plate.

Here's some pics of the clutch. It looks fine in appearance and function. I have not tried it running a bar and chain. The original and new spring are both the same length. I can put it together and take it apart by hand with both springs.

That looks normal to me and the same as my 262. If you want to tighten the spring it is ..Just..pos to snip off the hook on 1 end and open out the spring to make another hook.
