Press fit yes. You can make a puller from a 1/2'' NPT pipe fitting. It will screw right on to the gear
Somehow I missed that in the original photos. So this is a transition year saw and a very nice one at that! There were a number of significant changes in the 93-94 time frame (air injection, decomp, clutch driven pump).

Speaking of the pump, if it were my saw, I would convert it as it only takes having to removed the gear from the crankshaft and replace it with the plastic gear as well as a new clutch rim. Then it won't puke oil always when it is running at idle. I don't have any clutch rims but I can supply a plastic gear if you need.

I have one of each. In my use I don't see much difference. If I let it set idling it slobbers but I don't do that much.

As far as the gear I broke down and bought the Husky's removal tool.

The bronze gear can be stucked quite hard, but not like the bearing, mine came of quite easy when I split the case with the splitter, never used a special tool on the last ones.
If you split the case you can heat up the gear a bit first.

If you are first there I would installed plastic worm gear and clutch drummel for it.

time to start putting her back together. I thought I was going to have to split the case because the bearings felt gritty. Cleaned it out with gas and then diesel, lots of black crap, put some 2 stroke oil on them and voila, smooth as silk!!

Got the oiler, flywheel and coil mounted. Advanced timing about .020 of the key. Waiting on machine work to be done on the cylinder, I didn't get it shipped as soon as I would have liked. Been super busy. But once I have that I'll get her done!
@Boozer won this saw so I hope to have it done for the gtg, I can give it to him there.

Hello gents! Just found this thread and I'm stoked. Dan you're doing a fantastic job
on the rebuild and I can't wait to run her, thanks again.

I was 0 for life on raffles, drawings, pools etc...went 2 for 2 on the last couple somehow
and am totally shocked by my recent fortunes.

What date in May did you decide on? The avatar saw will be heading up with me, you
guys are gonna like running it!

Marcello, since I have not ported it yet, do you have any goals for the saw?
How much Compression? Will you be using mostly long or short bar.
Do u want a little torque monster, dual purpose, or a zippy short bar saw?
