You guys got me chuckling with the throttle rod back and forth.

Guy I bought it from suggested something about shimming the tank handle. I looked at the mount @Spike60 mentioned this am and the inner screw spins in the tank. Sigh. Didn’t have time to take it all apart.

It's supposed to look like this

In my original post, I mentioned that I tried it with saw running and couldn’t push carb lever any further than the rod was pushing it... but it’s hard to do and say for sure with it running.

Trust me, it’s getting replaced.

I pulled the pin on the trigger but didn’t get it out. Trick? I bet it’s messed up too.

I'd try the rod first. Like you said. It's hard to tell with it hooked up. They'e prone to failure

I only suggest you clean those port bevels up before you run it again, it will trash your piston and might even catch that ring, that`s never a good thing. That cylinder could be improved upon a good bit with a steady knowledgeable hand but just beveling the existing ports will greatly reduce further damage.

If I run this P&C, it will get cleaned up. Dawned on me at lunch I know an old engine guy and there's a boat engine porter across the street that I'm cool with. Maybe see how this one runs, if I can get compression up for fun. If it poops, oh well, new XP cyl time.

Morning Gents. I talked to those two local guys yesterday, and some guys on the bookface offered some input too. Worked up most of my small parts list for Spike. Seller offered to take the saw back but then I'll be out shipping and no saw...new OEM P&C is gonna throw the cost way over what it's worth (not that I'm trying to beat Spike out of a sale, and I might just take my licks to save time and get the OEM 357 kit), it's either that or spend some time messing with what I have. I have a machine shop and if I had some measurements of a good or bad 359/357 cylinder, maybe I could make this one fly...unless you guys think the chances are high it will peel it's plating right off the bat. I'm not asking you pros to give away your time and secrets, but if anyone wants to off info, measurements a bad P&C to measure from, or a good used one, I'm all ears and would be very grateful.

Thanks!

A bit confused by your last post , just what measurements are you looking for?

Ah, sorry. Figuring to take .030” off to get squish right but concerned about port location/heights initially (don’t know if they’re right now) and after taking .030” off. Pic is quick/rough, was at home and only had my beat up old pocket vernier.

Also need to check for freeporting...anything else?

Assuming @Spike60 and @afleetcommand don’t just verbally smack me upside the head and tell me to just spring for the 357 top end.

Thanks

Only thing your missing is in that pic is base to squish band.

Someone should be able to look at your measurements and tell you if they are ball park or not with the base cut 0.030". I cannot unfortunately. Even if they told you what stock is would be helpful in your case.

Port timing basically.

I could get it but forgot cylinder at work. Maybe I’ll go get it. Had to go to the dentist, took all day. Both kids home throwing up, so much for our valentine’s dinner. Oh well. Stay home and browse the internets for porting how-tos I reckon.

Found some recipes, they will require degree wheel. For someone with my background and machinery, this doesn’t appear to be hard to do once you know what numbers to hit.
