If I were to buy the 182 right angle hand piece from CC specialties, I know it will connect to my older 1990 model S Foredom (I already have the 44c hand piece) but being my Foredom only turns the one direction, does the 182 accept cutters to be inserted on either side to give multi directional rotation??
Also what cutters/burrs do you guys suggest I get. Right and left hand ?? I have 3 single cut 1/4” that I got from snap on years ago but they sure are aggressive. It’s been 30 yrs since I dabbled with porting but my days of climbing are catching up with me and I’d love to Eventually become proficient at woods porting for myself and local guys.

I just don’t want to go and guess at what burrs/stones etc to throw money at without asking you guys what you’d suggest first.

Thank you

Well that’s alright because I’m old school anyways... pretty much all I’ve ever done the past 30yrs with my daily drivers is open up the mufflers to let them breathe. My customers neighbours might not like us but they sure know we’re there.

Alumnihog for quick removal and double cut from buckeye carbide if I remember right off eBay for smoother and lighter work. The 182 you can get left hand bits of you need to spin it both ways. I honestly can’t remember trying to put them in backwards since my power unit didn’t have a revering switch

Yes I them on eBay. Thank you. What do you guys use to get down into the cylinders to work on the upper transfers ?? I’d love to avoid spending 700 dollars on a speciality right angle hand piece of could find an alternative.

I’d also like to think I could get away with right hand cutters only but gut feeling tells me it might not work

I’ve never used LH burrs. Only time I ever use reverse is with a diamond burr to maybe get a chatter mark out of a corner of a transfer port.

I like single cut burrs in the 182MC, SE51 single cut is probably my most used size burr followed by the SE51NF (alumahog) for exhaust ports.

Buckeye carbide is the company I usually buy from, Rjsupply on eBay or you can order directly from their website for a little cheaper.

well TJ was good enough to call me back yesterday and i decided I’d breakdown and lay it out once and be done with it. Have the 182 MC hand piece coming along with burrs similar to the ones you mentioned. I spoke with TJ more about the handpieces than burrs. Do the diamond impregnated remove nicasil or what do you guys use on that hardened surface ?? I went with single cut vs double thinking they might not plug up with aluminum as easily.

Single cuts do not plug up as much as double cuts do with aluminum, but the double cut is better with harder material such as steel or thick plating.

I will use a double cut burrs sometimes to bust through thick over plating in lower transfers just to save a little life of the single cuts or alumahogs. Diamond points will grind through the nicasil without taking any damage but it's a painfully slow process, they do not remove material fast so I use the carbide. I only use diamond points to smooth upper transfers and to bevel ports.

Do the DC burrs tend to naturally chatter more than the Single cut burrs?? If my memory serves me correctly, I believe I remember them getting plugged pretty good with aluminum and trying to pick what I could back out. Then I believe reading spraying WD-40 helps out. I really appreciate the help.

We 40, wax, or 2stroke oil works to keep them from plugging. I always used double cut in the uppers and a diamond ball to bevel them

I wasn’t sure if my hand would be steady enough to keep a diamond ball along a profile line without making a Gouging mess that I’d maybe have to use something else to clean that jagged line back up

Yes, double cuts are more aggressive and have a tendency to chatter more. If you plug up a burr just spray with WD40, or dip in a little oil and continue grinding as the aluminum will get pushed out once you have lubrication to keep it from smearing.

Stones can save you some new burrs from going dull rather fast.
You will want a dull burr at some point for those tight corners.
Always wanted lefties but never bought them to try out.

As these guys said diamonds are slow and painfully slow in plating but they give you the utmost control. My hands are not shot yet but the time involved seems to be getting longer for me not faster. Porting new offerings tends to slow down work progress treading in fresh territory as it were.

I just break the sharp edge. I don’t put big bevels on transfers. Just enough for the rings to not catch and wear prematurely.

Thankfully I already have a small stash of diamond and blue stones. I figured the stones might be soft enough they wouldn’t hold their profile very long and shy I didn’t order more.
So that’s what dulled my single cut burr using it years ago on my 066 jug. That thing wouldn’t cut worth a darn afterwards. I knew nicasil was hard but wasn’t aware it could ruin carbide so quickly. In regards to left hand cutters, I was assured they can be inserted opposite side of the 182 and used with a non reversing rotary tool so we’ll see soon enough. I’m going to try and find some thinner wall foam that I might be able to use on the handpieces in hopes it’ll help keep vibes down and my fingers not locking up as fast as what I’m already not looking forward to

Yes sir that’s all I was planning on is just breaking the edge to make sure it’s smooth any ring snatching edges out. Will wet dry paper touch that nicasil at all while chamfering ??

I’ve used sand paper strips before to just make sure it’s all good. I pull them from the bore out ward and do it again to make sure it’s smooth with no high spots

Something to allow me to get into the treetop quicker ?? I’ve been using and love the zigzag and micro pulley underneath the past 7yrs or so. no more buying short split tails used for our friction hitches.always interested in learning new techniques though

It will work as long as your burr isn’t any bigger than its shank
