I did some 1128 carb testing today, and all I can say is that the results are not conclusive regarding what carb is best.
I think it all just depends on what your saw likes.
No time to post vids, as I have to go away for the WE, and have to pack, but here is a summary of the results (testing done in 15+1/2" Pig Nut Hickory (tough wood).
Stated with my standard, the old 044 w/orig ZAMA C3M (Hong Kong) carb. Both cut times were in the low 10 second range (w/AM filter).
Put the HD-11 carb on, and cut times increased to mid 10/low 11 seconds.
Then broke out the Dr Al Ported 460 w/HD-50 and ran the best times of the day, a high 8 and mid 9 second runs (w/real HD-2 filter).
Put the HD-50 on the 044 hoping for great stuff, but times dropped, two cuts in the low 13s.
Now put the HD-11 on the 460 and both times were low 11s.
I now tried both the 044 and my CFB Hybrid with both AM filters and real HD-2s, but the 044 vid will not play, so I just have the Hybrid vids. It liked the real HD-2 filter better. The first two times w/AM filter were both in the high 11s, and with the HD-2 they both were in the low 11s, dropping over 1/2 second.
Both the 044 and Hybrid had AM air filters to start with, but the 460 had a real HD-2.
SUMMARY:
044 - Likes the ZAMA carb best, the HD-11 is a close second, and it absolutely hated the HD-50.
Ported MS460 - Screamed with the HD-50, not so impressive with the HD-11.
Hybid - I need to do more testing with this saw. It liked the real HD-2 filter better than the AM filter. Both the 044 and MS460 turned faster times with their best carbs, but putting it in a different light - The 460 was not any faster with the HD-11 carb, and the 044 was much slower with the HD-50 carb, which is what is on the hybrid!
In conclusion, don't ask me what carb is best, I can't tell you! TEST, TEST, TEST!!!
