I’m a Equipment Millwright & not a machinist but I appreciate Mr. L.S. Starrett’s contribution to precision tools.

I too have a fair amount of Starrett stuff that’s old enough to draw social security but it just plan feels better to work with that some of this newer stuff.

Thats because the newer starrett stuff is trash, the no name chinese stuff is equal or better now. For their hand tools they're just trading on the brand name at this point. Their digital optical stuff is basically the only god stuff they still make. Mitutoyo is basically as good as it gets now for calipers, mics, indicators, joe blocks, cadillac gauges, and the like.
