IMG_0506.jpg k in this pic it does have the decomp and looks like it could possibly have the red lever. Which gen of the 066 is the most desirable? And or most reliable?

The 066 has a decomp; my 064 AV does not. I guess when Stihl built the 064 a few years earlier, they decided that all the loggers buying it were brutes and musclemen. I'm adding an Elastostart to help things out.

I know that a few here have simply added loop handles to the pull cord rather than foot the bill for an Elastostart. Loggers are notorious for wearing out Elastostarts and pull cords by drop starting 90 cc saws.

IMG_0522.jpg Soo, it does have the black lever. What is different between the black and red? Is the red earlier or later?

The reds are a period somewhere in the middle. On 044s, they came out in the middle of the 10 mm period, and ended soon after it went to 12 mm. In general, it was a good time to have a saw, performance was still more important than emissions. The 044 I purchased new in 12/92 is a Red Lever.

The S/N starts with 126*********. 044s that start with 120****** are black lever saws (I know of 3 of them).

I presume the red control levers were around the same period for all models, but I could me mistaken on this.

IMG_0529.jpg ok, now she is just teasing me... not cool!!! I got stuck working this weekend and dont get to go pick up my saw til next weekend. And my friend insists on sending me daily pics to rub in my face. Sooo not amused!!! Well, the few pics that came after this one were amusing. But i am betting she, and the mods here would be upset with me for posting those... hehe

Soo, i picked up another cheap score. Was at the local stihl shop looking for more rs square grind and there is a 28" es light setting there and i ask how much. After a few min and him digging thru a bunch of other bars he says its in his system as a regular es bar, 84.95.. i say SOLD and snatched that bad boy up, threw some cash his direction and got the hell outta there!! Hehe!! Kinda stoked on that one. I have a 24" es light and love it. This 28" will be perfect for the new 066
