Yep, no one makes the ammo, it is handload only. The only advantage over the 348 is more availability of bullets.

I believe they were very close in power, along with the 358.

That 33 Federal has always intrigued me also. I think if they had Chambered the Ruger American Rifle for it I would have purchased that over the 06, but the 06 is nice!

I have a win 94 in 356...pre cross bolt safety. Very light and compact. Packs a big punch with 250gr

So, tell me about your 356 - what gun? I was disappointed the 307 and 356 had such short runs, they seemed like what was needed to me.
Marlin also made a limited amount of rifles in 356 called a 336ER. I use to own one but traded. Win 94 lighter and smoother.
I also own a 307 and 375 win in a Win 94. 356 my favorite.

Nice. You have a nice collection of lever guns there!

My 3rd Lever Gun is a Model 94 Buffalo Bill Commemorative in 30-30 with the 26" octagon barrel. They came out in 1969, I was only 17 so my Mom had to come with me when I bought it!

I have chronographed it side by side with a 20" barrel, and it really does add about 25 FPS / inch (or 150 FPS), making the 30-30 a little more potent. Plus that 26" octagon barrel holds real steady offhand, I used to hunt woodchucks with it and was deadly out to 100 yds.

I purchased some of those pointed Hornady bullets for the 348 (before they discontinued them), and may get some for the 30-30. They should extend the effective range a little.

The 30-30 is my LEAST favorite round to reload. The brass is so thin it is just too easy to crush the case neck. Conversely, 348 brass holds up real well.

My go to load is 60 grains of IMR 4350 over a 200 gr Hornady bullet. Over the years I also found some Speer heads in 180 and 220 grain, and some factory loaded Winchesters in 250 grain. Never shot any of them!
