Yes, and this nice Browning Repro of a 95 in 30-06. Shoots less than 1 + 3/4" at 100 yds! (this past Fall)

I had that 95 for over 30 years w/o ever shooting it, took it out last year and had a Williams peep installed.

I've shot 2" 5 shot groups with the 348 and open sights at 100 yds a couple of times, but that is when I was younger and my eyes were better!

My gunsmith would not install the peep on the 348!

How have you been doing?

Good shooting and nice 95. I’m doing well just telecommuting until this virus dies down. Been shooting on weekends and planted a garden with my daughter. Hope you’re doing well.

Not a lot of time to play lately as Tax Season is still "semi" going with the extension, etc. Since 4/1 I'm just having people mail or drop off their stuff.

Too early for the garden here, but my Daughter is growing some stuff for me from seed that I can plant in a few weeks.

Got a Asian 440 Big Bore running the other day, seems to run pretty good, and I did some addl port work to an Asian 660 last year that is a beast! You can really lean on it noodling Oak or Sugar Maple.

I also have 2 ported 462s that I really like, real great power to weight and trouble free use (M Tronic, clean air filter, spring AV). Hard not to like em!

Both the NY and CT GTG's were cancelled this year :-(

I guess with my business still going, I'm doing better than most, but tough seeing the Grandkids and not being able to give them hugs!

Hang in there. I’ve always wanted a Win 95 in 405. I like big bores. I had a Win 1885 in 405 once, octagon barrel, for primitive weapon season but sold it. Should have keep it.

My Uncle hunted with his 95 in 30-40, also had a take down, military carbine, and a 405.

He also had an 86 in 50-110.

They are making repros of the 405, but I'm glad my 06 repro does not have the tang safety.

I always wanted a 95 in 35 Winchester, but never found one.

The most beautiful 95 I ever saw was my Aunt's. It was a 30-06 done over by Griffin + Howe, had a beaver tail front (no Schnabel) and a curved lever with a pistol grip. Had a 24" bbl.

The gun was worth thousands decades ago, no way I could afford it when she got rid of it.

You guys are planting gardens and here in NY today it is cold, windy, and a little snow is falling! So windy I would not even want to be out there running a saw today! A few days ago we had 60 + sunny and were out in T shirts!

My Daughter did stop by this morning to PU some seeds from me. She will be starting them indoors for both of us. I had some left over store bought, and some that I harvested from beans and squash that I grew previously.

Guy, named Ray best I remember, that use to be on the TV show the last Alaskans used a Win 95 I think in 35 rem. He said it was a good moose gun.

I remember that, and the cartridge was NOT 35 Rem, it was 35 Win, big, big difference!

All the smokeless rounds (except 30-03/30-06) chambered in the Mdl 95 Winchester are based on the 30 US Army (30-40 Krag). The 35 Win was not just necked up, but also had the shoulder pushed forward for more powder capacity, and the 405 is the straight wall version of that round. The other rounds chambered were black powder cartridges. The 405 was the "375 H+H" of it's day, and Teddy Roosevelt used it to take that Rhino in the iconic photo.

The 30-40 is closer to the 308 in power than it is to the 30-30, and a 35 Rem is like a rimless 35 cal 30-30.

Winchester intended the 95 to be a military rifle - hence the 30-40 chambering and subsequent 30-03/30-06 chamberings. The military did not like it because it was difficult to operate the lever in prone position. (Also, the military carbine version).

Russia adopted it as their military rifle, and more 30 cal Russians were produced than any other caliber. You will notice that many Texas Rangers used Model 95s, especially the carbine version, and it was popular with the Rough Riders, who often did not use military issue rifles.

My Uncle's hunting 30-40 had the traditional 28" barrel, with very fine blade sights. Boy did that thing crack when it was fired! Extra barrel length gives you extra velocity, and the guy that hand loaded for him loaded them hot, as the Model 95 was a good amount stronger than the Krag bolt action.

Being a collector my Uncle was sometimes in touch with Winchester personnel, and he learned that a Model 95 action was still being used to proof test 30-06 rounds into the 1960s.

I see he has a peep sight on that 95, and I also put one on mine. As much as I like the old fashion large bores, my 06 is probably the best round for hunting any big game other than large Grizzles and such.

I also put sling swivels on mine. I learned a long time ago that it is no fun trying to drag a deer out of the wood with only one hand!
