Very nice. I've tried to acquire one several times, but it never happened.

Once, the guy told me it was mine, then sold it before I got there, and another time I bought one that was all apart only to find out the jug had been replaced.

I've got a few of the early 044 Zama carbs w/o the snorkel. Some are labeled Japan, some Hong Kong.

I believe the one on my beloved 044 is Hong Kong. I did rebuild it once years ago.

What is the reason for the snorkel? Will a snorkel C3M work on a saw that didn’t have a snorkel C3M?

The snorkel is supposed to adjust the carb (slightly) when your air filter gets dirty. The plastic piece that goes over the carb did not have an oblong cone for a snorkel on the early 044s. My 044 has the cone, but it is closed. Later 044s and 440s have the cone and it opens into the snorkel.

I guess if your air filter is dirty, it moves the diaphragm a bit.

You can run either carb on either saw, just if the carb does not have a snorkel, make sure the cone is plugged, or vice versa (plug the snorkel).

Thanks!

I have a C3M carb on my 044 non snorkel and I just can seem to figure out what’s wrong with it. I put a rebuild kit in it and it got a little better but I still can’t get it to tune. Thinking it might be something with the saw, I robbed a carb off my other 044 and it tuned and ran perfect.

Got any suggestions on what I should check?

If it ran perfectly with the other carb, then it is not the saw.

Maybe some dirt is still trapped in there. I would take it apart and blow compressed air through all the openings.

Also, make sure the lever valve is set correctly, that can screw things up.
