I agree 100%. A ported 036 imo is a 1 saw plan. Small enough to do light limbing and big enough to tackle felling and bucking. I’ve run this saw with a 28” bar noodling ash and it was great.
It sure could be a one saw only plan, the ported 036 is not far behind a stock 044. If I had not started out running 044`s before finding my 036 either saw could be my fav to run, once I ported my first couple 044`s they fit me so well I will stick with them for the rest of my cutting days.

If I could only keep 1 saw I’d have a hard time deciding between a ported 036 and my 044 hybrid.
I’m glad that’s not a decision I have to make. Lol

Ah, the hybrid, guess that`s why I kept two of them, certain jobs just require that bit more speed and power but not quite big enough to drag out the 064 or 066`s. I could let 7 of my 044`s go as long as I could keep one and a hybrid.

Here's my 036 that I built by upgrading an 034 with an 036 top end. No decomp valve, but I've never needed that.

I did add an outer bumper spike and some paint to spruce it up. This saw was in pieces and missing several when I got it. Runs fine today, and I have used it a lot.

My Nephew is a dyed in the wool Husky guy, but he tells me there are two saws that he will take if I ever want to get rid of them … My 10 mm 044 (and he remembers that from when I first got it an he was just a kid) and my MOFO 360 (even though he has a MOFO 262 that he loves).

When he runs those saws at family wood cutting get togethers they put smiles on his face!

I reluctantly sold a low hour MS440 that I put a new piston in, but with my 044, two ported 60 cc saws, and several Hybrids, there was just no place left for it in my lineup.
I also did the same thing - rebuild an MS440 and sell it. That was a mistake because the 440 would easily pull a 25" bar and did not weigh much more than a 361. There have been many times when I needed that longer bar for big buck cuts. I then ended up going to an o64 or my MS660, and they seem to weigh a ton. The Makita 6401 and the Echo CS-670 filled in the gap, but that MS440 was a screamer.
