The 026 is one the greatest saws that Stihl ever made, they have an almost cult-following. Super dependable.
I had an 025 that really impressed me, yet this 026 I bought about 3 months ago is a small beast & in another league...and I've cut some really big wood with it---without a problem!
16" bar & square chisel RS chain and,"It's On Like Donkey Kong!" :dancer2:
GO 4 IT ALREADY!

+1 for me. It has been said by some of the porters that the early red lever saws had better port timing. It is a worthy investment. I've bought quite a few of them and many of them have found new homes with those who had a handful of cash. My preference of bars for these saws is the 16" with a muffler mod -- they wake up nicely. The gentleman above drf256 can make it really come alive.
Like one of the previous posters I would offer less than what the guy said he would take -- cash always speaks, and it can't hurt to make a reasonable cash offer below just to test the waters.

Well it seems to be in good shape. The piston isnt scored the best I can tell in the pictures he sent me. I have to go by there next week when my parts come in, so I will take some $20 bills with me! Did these saws have a rim sprocket or spur? I'm sure it can be swapped like most other Stihls. I will post the mandatory pics when I get it. I think I'm becoming one of those saw hording people! Thanks for all the replies.

It is possible it has a rim sprocket. Depending on how it was swapped out over the years. You can usually pick up a good OEM rim set up on Flea Bay.
In my opinion one cannot have too many 026's.

My latest creation, in it only for the cost of the bar and chain, traded a handfull of used parts for the saw itself. My very first 026 was a partially stripped down for an unknown reason and picked up for me by a fellow co worker, he paid a whole $5. for it at the end of a yardsale. I had to put a new airfilter on it , that was around 7 years ago and that saw is still running fine.

Good lookin saws all i can find is a 024 guys don't hardly let loose of their 026 I've ran them they seem like a much lighter 028.

Never ran an 028 (have 2 on the to do list) the 026's show up here quite often, right now several 024's on CL but not good enough shape for me. I want a nice 024. But really like the 026's
May not run like a 346?? But I've not run one of those either.
Got my eye on a 026 pro also.
