Yes, seems it holds/puddles fuel, my 026`s do not have that lip.

Make sure the boot is oriented correctly on the cylinder. That looks excessive in your pic.

I have done just what Jerry has, I have an oem boot I cut close to the cylinder. That way I can see how it matches up.

Can we see a pic of the top of the jug? The non-decomp late 44mm jugs seem to be the worst-there is an undrilled boss on top of the jug. The intake snout floor has a casting line in it-like yours.

I only have a pic of one I repaired. Should look like this.

I pulled out all my spare cylinders not mounted on saws today, not one of them have that dreaded lip, they appear to all be from early red lever saws, all my running saws have the same cylinder on them, all non decomp early red lever cylinders. It`s all I pick up when I get a chance, like them very much for porting. The rubber intake does not have a gap or any restriction I can see when mounted in the correct orientation.
If I came across a cylinder with the type of lip in merc_man `s pic I would seriously consider filling it up with epoxy instead of grinding it down so as not affect intake port timing.

So i ground just a little on the intake. Put it back togeather and same thing. Pulled carb and noticed ther wasnt a puddle like befor. Im not sure if the intake boot was not aligned propper originally but it fits up nice now.
I decided to go through the carb again. I now have the meter lever tool that just came in the other day. Checked it and it was quite low. Bent it up and put back togeather and it seems to be much better. Will have to wait till tomorrow to try again. I got to pop carb out again. I forgot to put that little boot ring in.

My ms260 has had this puddling issue since new (2010) that is a distraction when trying to focus on the job at hand; suspect a lip on the cylinder intake. Is it obvious how to fix the problem with careful grinding or is there another method else that someone can suggest, please? Or deal with it or sell... Thanks.

Run your finger over where the bottom of the intake port meets the cylinder wall/plating. If you feel a lip smooth it off with some sandpaper or a burr carefully.

Have you ran it since? A low needle in the carb has caused a hesitation going from idle to WOT and overrun after letting off the throttle for me and my saws. Just like to know the ins and outs of these saws and if we can come up with an all around fix for it. For me I found the WT194 to be the carb of my choice as its fully adjustable, good thing for ported engines and all the ports on my 026`s get some grinding, they don`t puddle. Like to hear back about any and all problems and fixes.

Sure enough:

Wonder why the lip is there in the first place? Maybe swirl the fuel/air mixture?
