I have a very early 024 with 42mm bore. One ring piston. One bar stud. Early oil pump and gudgeon screw tank vent.

Can I just slap in one of the many 42mm pistons off evilbay ?

Oem pistons are still available from Stihl. Last one I got was just shy of $50.

This page in my Clymer chainsaw overhaul manual has me confused.

Lists two different crankshaft stroke for the 024.

I cannot reconcile the same piston being used for a 30mm stroke and a 32mm stroke and have the same wrist pin to crown height. [emoji848]

The 024 supers had a crank with longer stroke, kind of a stepping stone to the 026. Not sure how they made up the difference, i would guess that an 024 super cylinder next to an 024 cylinder would show the 024s being a little bit taller, but i bet @drf256 would be able to pinpoint how they made up the difference

FWIW, there is an 024 and 026 info thread in the Technical Area of this forum with IPL’s in PDF format. The very first IPL has the one ring piston version with all the part numbers.
