@DSS texted this to me a couple days ago. Seemed like a good buy, although I'm a little unclear on how that weird hybrid looking L/f that's sits in front of the 202 translates to 'merican.

Many Hoosky have the key cast into the flywheel.

What they are trying to say is that the key aligns the crank with the flywheel for ignition timing. The crank is held on by the taper, not the key.

On many hoosky, I engrave the key centerline then grind the entire key out. I position on the flywheel where I want it and torque the nut on at 26 ft/lbs. For instance, on a 262, I align the centerline with the left side of the crank key way. That gives me 1/2 key advance.

Most still keys are .080 think.

My neighborhood Ace Hardware had both metric and 'merican woodruff keys.

Actually, the key helps the flywheel stay in position for pull starting more than anything else.

Above damage caused by loose nut when pulling it over.

Most Stihl keys initially measure .078 to .080, but the integrated one on the 362 was .140.

My solo had some casting marks that wouldn't let the flywheel seat all the way

As has been said many times, the taper holds the crank. The key is just to help alignment. If your destroying cranks, look for the reason the taper isn't right.

Or not clean. Friction in that taper holds it, any oil/grease and you are toast! Scotch Brite or Brake Cleaner will generally work.

Harley cranks have no keys in them .The pin is tapered .Assembly of same you use acetone to make certain the parts are clean .

It's the wedge effect of the taper that does the holding not the key .This type device is used for a lot of things and has been for some time and has worked well .
