A through wedged mortise and tenon joint. I drilled through the head, vertically. Then I turned the handle's end for a snug fit and sawed a mortise groove through the handle about two inches down. Then I cut a wedge with a very slight taper to serve as a tenon to fill the groove.Nice, how did you connect the 2 pieces?
I applied glue to all mating surfaces, joined the head to the handle, and then pounded in the tenon wedge with glue applied to it also. When dry, I trimmed off the exposed tenon projection and sanded it smooth.
I know of no stronger joinery to attach a mallet head to a handle than the through wedged mortise and tenon.
