Nice, how did you connect the 2 pieces?
A through wedged mortise and tenon joint. I drilled through the head, vertically. Then I turned the handle's end for a snug fit and sawed a mortise groove through the handle about two inches down. Then I cut a wedge with a very slight taper to serve as a tenon to fill the groove.

I applied glue to all mating surfaces, joined the head to the handle, and then pounded in the tenon wedge with glue applied to it also. When dry, I trimmed off the exposed tenon projection and sanded it smooth.

I know of no stronger joinery to attach a mallet head to a handle than the through wedged mortise and tenon.

I carved this canvasback, years ago from a chunk of cedar that I recovered from a flood, my dad painting two years ago as a Christmas present!

I started hacking out another chair this afternoon.
It will likely be very much like the other one, but now that I have a carving bar, I hope I can maybe do a few detail touches to it.
Or, completely jack it up..

Simple but sweet:
Chain Brake SpringTool2.jpg
My chain brake spring refastening tool for Stihls. It works so well that I have no idea how I got along without it. White oak handle turned on a lathe; tool made from a 5/16" bolt, cup-shaped as needed on end and screwed into handle.

I ordered one of those cheap little deals that runs along a 2x4 nailed to a log that mounts to the bar and pivots.
It's not a mill, but has to be better than me eyeball and freehanding cuts.
Going to attempt a bench next.

I like the rustic chairs. I may have to give that a try.

Hellz yeah! Just grab a log and a saw and start hackin!

The couple I made are 3' high, seat height at 17". I measured some kitchen chairs and used those heights. The logs are about 20-21" I used.

I will say, if you do, use saws you dont really care about.
It's a lot of very little load piss revving.

To do the back on this one, I tipped it back on another log and lightly noodled the back out with my pos Dolmar 111 and an 18" bar.

I also make things with wood that I can use in the shop. I made a few spools to hold reels of chain that I use to make chain loops for friends, myself, and a few customers of course:
Chain Spool 1.jpg
This one will top out at 200' of 3/8" pitch, but I seldom fill it. The center axle is conduit that I surrounded with hardwood. I used white oak for most of the parts but hardboard for the ends of the spool. It has a nice, smooth, unwinding action that never squeaks because I lube the big washers with a little bar oil.
