Anyone here into that stuff?

I have zero artistic ability, zero patience, but I have been finding it a fun way to get the opportunity to mess with saws, sanders and even the saw-zall from time to time!

Plus, my wife likes that kind of crap, so it's an easy in for screwing off.

The first ever thing I did with a saw.

That one sits in my yard. I have since cut off the end per my wifes request.

Just made this one and my first attempt at a chair for my Mom.

And an outside table for my wife.

So, whatcha got that you hacked out of a tree?
Tips, tricks, whatever!

I'm also starting to look into getting an actual carving bar or 2. Are certain ones better/worth their extreme price, or are the cheap ones ok for a beginner hack such as myself?

I freehand hacked these out of an uprooted oak.

It looked like this in the woods.

They are uneven unfortunately, but I started doing a bit of sanding and they look kind of cool.
I've seen tables where the cracks have been filled with some type of colored epoxy. I think I may try that on this to see how it works.

Good job Ed! Cutting a log with a chainsaw is a good first step! :D

Im too have poor wood working skills. Im anxious to see what others creativity exist here.:)
If you want bits, chunks and dust, I'm your guy!
Other than that, I struggle!

Oh, and I guess I should have pointed out for you that it was my first "creative" effort with a saw.
So, GFY.

I cut a 48" cookie from a maple my grandpa had removed and gave it to my brother. He filled all the gaps with blue expoy and made a table out of it. He keeps it in his kitchen. Ill have to find a pic.

I almost forgot my very first comissioned artwork, done for none other than our very own @Dub11
I even did some custom wood burning on this project.

Knowing Waynes love for mini macs and fine art, I thoughtfully combined the two.

This project was inspired by @Steve so I have to give gim the credit on that!

My wife decided it was too cold to go for the motorcycle ride we had planned, so I decided to try another chair.

Bucked it to length with my MoFo 036.
I based the measurements of seat and back height roughly off a kitchen chair.

I picked up a loop of Archer ripping chain.
It stretched like crazy in the first 12" of cut. Tightened it up and so far so good.
I cant say the finish is smoother, but the cut with the saw is quicker and smoother.

Super precise layout using a piece of my kids sidewalk chalk

More of the legs.
20190511_184903.jpg

Onto the back.
I ended up taking a sharpie and putting a line on the bar to help keep my depth even down the cut.

The old Wang-chung-a-varna needs a new bar..cuts crooked as chit.

Slowly but surely cutting the large chunks out.

I am more partial to Stihl, but dont really have anything against Husky's either.
Up until 5 years or so ago, Stihl was the only thing available locally except the big box store Poulans.
That I got that 268 with a broken case. It's now a farmertec case. First saw I ever split, before I found this place.
It's got a kung pow 272 top end on it too after I ripped an intake gasket and leaned it out. I sent that jug up to Stumpshot as I figured he would be able to save it and find it a good true Husky home.
