I carry a Gen 1 Glock 23 in a slacker bag (pistol pack), on my belt when in Anchorage, or an AMT Backup in .45acp in the pocket of my jacket. I only use Cor-Bon ammo. My wife will carry a Beretta Tomcat .22lr in her jacket pocket because it is so tiny and light.
I want to pick up one of the micro-Glocks in .45 because I sincerely believe a bigger hole is better than anything else.

I was surprised on how well the little single stack Glock shot (G36). Maybe not 300rds in a setting comfortable, but nice just the same.
***Edit*** this applies to the G36, G42 and G43... in .45, .380 and 9mm respectively...

M&P compact in 9mm, Trijicon HD night sights and a Apex duty/carry trigger kit.

In Alaska against your animals, penetration from a hard slug matters more than size.

I have been looking at Youtube flicks of various manuafacturers ammo in clear gelatin. I would like to see some Cor-Bon .45 put up. I'd do it if I lived where I could get a couple hundred pounds of gelatin without having to spend $600 for shipping. But then I'd also have to wait until spring as it's -17* F right now. I have one of those Casio's that shoot up to 1000 frames per second. I think that would do a good job of catching what happens without having to rent a purpose-built high-speed video camera.

Though size only matter when hits are scored... I've known too many who thought that poorly shooting the bigger bores would impress others. I know my limits and prefer a warm-hot loaded 300+ grain pill to a screaming 185-240 in the same caliber... More of a push than a snap.

I do love my 4" 629 and the Riger SRH Alaskan that I'll be inheriting, but will likely have another .45 Colt or .454 someday. Then again, Dad's 6" Model 57 Classic S&W in .41 mag is a thing of beauty to hold and to shoot. I could easily see having a fine single action in .41 mag...

I agree completely. Compare a 38 special recoil to the fast snappy recoil of a 9mm.

I dont consider the G30 S a micro but it is one of the more comfortable handguns I have shot

The .38spl analogy is a good one. Though physics comes into play there as well, as +p-.38spl in a scandium frame snubby can be quite sporty for the uninitiated... LOL

If you're into that kinda stuff you should try the Buffalo Bore 180 HC out of an SP101.

It will let you know what's in the cylinder. [emoji41]

Dad has an assortment of molds, but one of them is a .358 double or triple cavity Keith-style that throws a 165-175gr pill depending on whether straight wheel weight or if there's Linotype thrown in... Works VERY well out of my 6" Taurus model 608 when stoked with either H110, Lil' Gun, or other suitable choices... I'm thinking that after I get a Ruger 77/357 picked up from a local dealer, if OAL isn't a concern with the mag or chamber, it ought to be the bees knees for a 125 +/- deer carbine/truck gun. Loaded down w/Trail Boss and a 115-125gr pill, it ought to cheaper to shoot than .22lr is right now and almost the same recoil (or lack thereof)...

I wouldn't mind a Model 92 or clone thereof in either .44 Mag or .45lc, BUT, all of the seem to have very slow twist rated for light bullets and/or hot rounds. Both rounds (to me) are far better hunting/defense tools, with heavy WFN bullets that hit like Thor's Hammer... I suppose I might find a Rossi R92 and then have someone like E.R. Shaw & Co, or similar make a 20" med-heavy barrel w/a 1-20 to a 1-24 twist rate. That should balance well, hit hard and stabilize a 240-330gr bullet which is where I'd be at anyway.

I think Coonan made a 1911 style 50ae. It must be a beast to fire. I'd rather take a .45 Win Mag, that is a round that should have made it big.
