My gp100 I let my dad use for home defense as he won't buy anything. I sold my ruger super red hawk in .44 and still regret that.

Taurus makes a slim little single stack 380. I forget the model but my buddy had one and Ive ran several rounds through it without a hiccup and the recoil was really soft
The Taurus, was my first thought along with the LCP. After handling them, neither of us liked them.

My Super Redhawk and Leupold magically "disappeared" during a divorce. I still miss it.
I bought a .41 Redhawk just to make me feel better about it. It worked.:)

That sucks! I still kick myself but replacing it with another big bore revolver does sound like therapy. Always wanted to try a smith in .44 but I hear they don't handle the hot loads as well.

My 629 does fine, but for sustained use, I'd take a RH or SRH any day. I see the 629 as a .44spl that can shoot mags. I see the RH and SRH as Mags that can shoot specials.

I'd have to try an 83 before I bought one, especially in .454. I know that they're about the most well-timed/built revolver out there and I can tolerate a decent amount of recoil w/o flinching, but I've got it on good authority that the 83 chambered in Casull with about any length of non-ported barrel has a wicked snap to it. I think if I want more power than 280-315gr loads in .44's and .45's, it would either be a .480 Ruger in a SRH or a BFR single action, or a Smith X-frame, just to have more pistol to soak it up. Power's nothing w/o control.

If you are wanting something other than a SRH in .44, I recommend the BFR in .454 with a 6" non Ported Barrel.

I've Owned a FA 83 Field Grade & the BFR: I much prefer the BFR, & I hate Ported barrels.

I have ye to try either. The most powerful that I've played with was an 8" SRH in .480 which was pretty nice.

To answer your question, I don't reload for 44 yet, because I like shooting the Buffalo Bore & Garretts, but I've been stocking up on pistol powders when I buy my rifle stuff.

I just like the idea of the power that the .480 generates at a relatively low chamber pressure as compared to the Casull. It makes for a longer, slower recoil curve. And I do handload, but there's something to be said for availability in the case of the .44 and .45 in the Colt and Casull. The .460 S&W might be a bit past ridiculous, but I've yet to try that.
