The line may not steer the fall, though the placement of the rope does affect how/from which angle the rope itself pulls on the tree. So in effect, one can dramatically aid or hinder the direction and final lay of the tree with "choker" placement.
My point is this: if you are relying on the line for anything other than pull you should go back to the drawing board.

I had an idear. Pain to set up, but...

Two lines to tree, angling off as described to pulleys at anchors. From the pulleys, both lines come together and connect to a common winch line. I think this would force the tree to come down in the center of the two anchors.

Except after the tree passes its tipping point within a split second the top travels faster than you can pull. At that point the tree does pretty much what the hinge tells it to.🤷🏼‍♂️

You could in theory definitely set up a two rope or doubled rope pull system. I just personally never saw a reason and I’ve pulled a few pretty big trees over in 25 years of tree work.

I’m thinking like in case that turd doesn’t have any usable hinge wood…then once it got started in the right direction it would be good. Could pull faster with a truck or tractor and get more momentum. At least with one rope opposite each target, it shouldn’t hit anything it shouldn’t, even if not exactly down the center.
