I was thinking some face cuts might not have been a bad idea. :)
I was on a ladder, which is not a good place for me to be in the first place; and, they were leaning hard with huge weight. So, I did not want to start a bottom cut and the limb give way with me underneath it, on a ladder; and, I did not want to attempt a face cut and get my bar pinched. If I had a lift, no doubt, a face cut would have been attempted...

Tackled a big stump last week with my vintage 024 AVS, recently upgraded with a 44.7mm P/C and a 20" bar.

I had a particular dislike for this stump, the tree from it came down in calm conditions on a clear day, narrowly missing my wife and 2 grandchildren playing in the back yard. One of the branches hit my wife's back when she hit the deck and covered the kids.

Red oak, base was mostly powder from carpenter ants that have infested a lot of the big trees around here.

Took down the fence and dropped it between the posts. In the mountains, so the ground was sloped around 35 to 40 degrees. Fun day, but hard on the knees at the steep working angle.

The tree had been dead for a while and had dropped a big limb on the fence to the left. The tree was loaded with bugs too.

Forgot the after shot of this one. This is looking down the lay. Decent sized tree, 30” bar. 2DC475D1-E2DC-49E9-85DB-FEE85BF6C5F0.jpeg

Should have left that first stump high and dropped this one behind it instead of letting it roll against the save tree. Tapered hinge due to side lean.
