Yup, that be it! I cut a bit with the 024 last night. She accelerates and cuts just fine, at least as well as my Echo CS-400. The saw won't idle very long even with the throttle stop screw turned all the way in. I'm thinking the air filter flock is plugged up, it's pretty brown and probably original to the saw. The initial carb settings are one turn out for each one, currently it's at around 7/8 out on the low and 1-1/8 on the high. Will get a new air filter and try it again. Anybody got a later style air filter and tank vent I could try?

You are stuck with the tower style vent on that particular tank unless you wanted to fashion a 'hose style' vent using two pieces of fuel line with a smaller piece going into a larger piece that would fit snuggly into the hole for the vent base...(or just one piece of hose with the right inner and out diameter). Then just add a grub screw or two (depending on the length of the hose and screws) to whatever you have cobbled up and call it a tank vent. I just threw this example together for illustration purposes and would have made it shorter if it were to be a permanent piece of redneckery.

And as for questioning your air filter interfering with your tuning, just take it off and see how it idles without it. Then don't be surprised if the choke mechanism is messed up and is causing the problem.

Anyway, back to the vent. This saw happens to be an 036 of the same era using the same vent as early 024's/026's.

l have a like new air filter for an 024 if you are interested.
It actually came from a Stihl dealership as an acceptable alternate filter for an 026.
I removed it right away and put on an 026 metal mesh filter. I will get some pics for you.

Unless I'm mistaken that tank vent is one of the few items Stihl made that was used on several models rather than being model specific .I had to track down a vent for an 034 super and as I recall it is the same as used on the 024.It wasn't very much money via flea bay .Still dark,I'll check it out later today .
On the subject also if I recall I once needed a clutch side cover for an 038 Mag .They wanted a bloody kings ransom for one .I snagged an 024 cover which worked for about 1/3 the cost .Seems out of charactor for Stihl to make anything that can be used that wasn't model specific .

I couldn't find out where in the world I hid the 034 super .Never the less here's the 024 .It's the same tank filter on both .However in looking at flea bay it looks like the little short vents from like a later model 026/260 DSCN0215[1].JPG and others might work as well

The ms series vents will not work on the earlier saws.

The tower style vents were used on the early 024/026, 034/036. There is a serial number break point for both which determines when the later style vents would apply due to a change in the tank/handle to accommodate the new vents. There is also a larger fuel tank opening for the 'S' style 1127 fuel line (029/039, etc.) in the case of the 034/036 and a slightly shorter 1121 'S' version for the 024/026.

Guys, I have blown up Stihl MS360. I was pressure testing it and my mityvac bit the dust. I got everything sealed off, so I used a old garden sprayer with no nozzle, just a hose. I put the hose over the Stihl testing flange and pumped it up. I then sprayed the seals and I saw no bubbles. I then took the hose off the saw and all the air spewed out. So I am assuming the saw should be good. The carb limiters are intact, so maybe it was a lean tune? What do you guys think?

Hopefully they work out well for you.
About the new caps i received from ddav. I like them for me it easier to remove with gloves on and the fuel stays in the tank. Been cutting down about 8 acres of chinese elm. All this to makes very short story very long haha. Thanks for telling me about the caps dated me a HUGE headache

Contact Wolf Creek Saw Shop for info. They sell the CEKN bearing you are referring to and offer a 90 day warranty as well. I'll guess it's a Chinese bearing, but some are clearly much better than others.

For the price they're asking you could get the OEM if there's an honest Stihl dealer within 100 miles of you. Just priced a set yesterday for a 661 as a matter of fact. 14.49 and 16.99 respectively. Course the flywheel side is a common 6203 you can get anywhere for 6 bux anyway, so why not just go OEM for the PTO side?
