Mike - You could fit a lot of Promac 650s in the back of that truck. Next time you're up this way, I'll fill 'er up.
The funny thing is a few years back those McBricks and 10-10's weren't selling for much, $50 for good runners if that, now they seem to be selling for some money. Even XL12's are now selling for more than $15 that good runners sold for 5 years ago.

I bought one of my 125’s for a a guy who who also had a good running mcbrick...he could understand why I chose the 125, not running for $50, instead of the running mcbrick...I think I could won a high steaks poker game with the look I gave him..
he had taken the 125 to a local dealer..he said it was worthless, I wish I knew the dealer so I could get more worthless saws, had it running in 15 minutes after I got home, almost felt bad

Anyone know what blocks this 101a is, aa, b? Thanks
It’s not a b block, it could be an a or aa, I think it’s a 101a looks like the larger pto boss. The only real difference between the blocks are a recessed exhaust gasket, port timing seems to be the same at least on the few that I have had

The piston shows on this 101A IPL. 2.310" Rings PN 66045 pg 2

I should have mentioned that if the cylinder has a chrome bore the steel rings are required. PN 81561

Thanks no more diference in power?
No, not really, the biggest difference was rods and piston pins, along with rod bolts, more of a Durability think but block wise they are basically the same for ports and head design from the 101a aa b d and mc blocks the mc101 is Is different in that it doesn’t have a recessed head gasket for an O-ring, and the boost port is a removable boost port cover like the 797

Was it the "D" block or the "AA" block that were intended for ultra-light engines? In the early days of ebay, I saw
a lot of those motors with the crank that has the 3/4" keyed straight stub shaft on the PTO side for the propeller.

I have heard them referred to as D blocks but I believe they are MC101mc blocks,Yes they were for ultra lights, with a three-quarter straight shaft you can identify the block separately because it has a decompression port in the side of the block

I would say that the 101B crankshaft is the most desirable for a saw swap because it has left handed thread for the clutch just like the sp125

FWIW back in the glory days they figured an alkie burning tuned pipe race engine had about one hour running time .They cranked the power but not the run time .Old adage that that runs fast does not run long .
My buddy Louie had a half dozen 101's tuned for long track, short track ,road course as he toured the midwest in the early 70's .One raven haired wife, two little kids in an old Ford van .Burned the highways up every week end running the circuit .

Al, I just looked up specs for the 7-10 A I just bought. Nice looking saw of yours on Acres site! Mine doesnt look nearly that good, but I couldnt pass it up for $20. Its mostly complete. Missing chain brake lever, but band etc is still there. Turns over. Not sure what else it needs at this point. It sat outside in the rain for who knows how long. Has a 20" bar and rusted solid chain.
Get some pics of it when I get back by to pick it up.
Should make a nice older brother for my PM700.
Heard these we're a little sportier too.
Steve, this is the same saw I asked about a few weeks ago. He didnt want to sell it then.
Sometimes you have to ask nice and ask twice I guess.

Well 20 bucks you can't hardly pass it up .I got that 7-10 for my wifes' nephew who lives up by Detroit and had about 60-70 bucks in it after I ordered a complete ignition system from Canada on flea bay and a carb rebuild kit . .He was cutting wood with his buddies and shocked them all when a 30 plus year old McCulloch out ran their "wild things" and 029 Stihls .They didn't know any different .That said they are good cutters .If they have a leg up on a 700 I can't really say .

A little after thought .I can't remember if I hung a 16"or 20" bar on that thing ,I think the later but I laced it up with a semi chisel instead of a chisel because he was not well versed in chainsaw operation or filing a chain .Sent with the saw an Oregon filing guide and two extra files .
It developed some problems after a few years which was simple but no shop in or near Flat Rock Mich had a clue how to fix it .It was something that must have taken me all of 15 minutes to repair .When I sent it back it was laced up with a chisel chain and he swore I souped it up .

7-10 should not have a brake.

Well now we have a bit of controversy .I've been accused of being a smart azz which I'm not trying to be .After saying that if you look at the 7-10 IPL of 1974 it shows no brake but if you go to the IPL of 1976 it does show a brake .I had to go to the pic of the 7-10 I had on Miks's site because I had forgotten it did have a brake and I didn't add it .It may have been an option for all I know although it's not shown on the three previously dated IPL's prior to 1976 .

Brakes showed up in Canada some time before the US. I suspect at some point they were a dealer installed option or could be ordered with one.

Both of mine have short cover brakes with black flags and both have operator present levers.

The last version in the 1979 publications guide shows the 7-10A with both.

Interesting. I dont think i ever seen a 7-10 with a brake. Figured they just started that at the PM700.

I have no idea when the U.S. mandated chain brakes. I know my dad brought home a brand new poulan 3500 in 1994 and it does not have a brake.
