The squeezer pic? That’s the sugar plant. Shop is pretty big though. Weld shop is 7 bays, 1/3 of the bldg.

Big enough to give me gray hairs.

My metal working skills are in the mid to small stuff area, but I occasionally have fun encounters.

With, on this machine, maxxed out liquid cooling.



1258 Metric M6x1.0 x15mm deep blind threads, that took a while - TWICE (I made two of these work/mounting plates) !

Left: 10.0mm Solid-Carbide mill bit after having processed dozens of "milling lines" (hours of work throughout the shift) in grey cast iron - no cooling, high rpm.

Right: identical 10.0mm (same manufacturer & model) after milling ISO 12.9 grade steel nearly continuously for 30 minutes (about 60 mostly short milling lines) with maxed out liquid cooling and reduced tooling parameters (lower rpm's & feeds)

12.9 grade steel is unforgiving!



On the right mill bit the flutes are still fine, it is the plunge cut into the quenched 12.9 grade steel surface that takes a heavy toll on the bit.
I have a love/hate relationship with 12.9 grade steel! /
I love making something durable, but I hate ruining my tooling.

P.S./Edit:
ISO 12.9 is a higher grade than SAE grade 8 - it compares to SAE ASTM A574

The 2-step verification issues might hinder members from posting though I guess.

You just know You have a great tap when it makes chips like this and doesn't resist the manual tapping process.
It is a blind hole machine tap, the block is mild steel.

No danger to bottom out with a short tap though.

Yeah, on a sugar beet slicer shaft.

I need to get pics of some of our machines and the slicer squirrel cage, but we’re real busy, shorthanded, and I’m dragging.
